DL LogoEOG NFL Sports Betting Preview: Miami Dolphins vs Carolina Panthers

Two teams that started the 2009 NFL wagering season disappointingly but have since turned it around somewhat meet on Thursday night when the Miami Dolphins (4-5 SU, 4-5 ATS) travel to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers (4-5 SU, 4-5 ATS).  Miami has covered four of their last six games for football betting fans, while Carolina has covered four of their last five per the NFL gambling line.

Miami got terrible news on Wednesday when it was found out that star RB Ronnie Brown will have to miss the rest of the season due to a right foot injury.  Brown was the team's leading rusher with 648 yards and eight touchdowns after nine games and the load will now be placed on Ricky Williams' shoulders with Brown gone.  Williams had his first 100 yard game of the season last week against Tampa Bay and has looked good when he has carried the ball for Miami betting fans.  His 5.3 YPC average is one of the tops in the league and he may end up breaking the 1000 yard plateau for the first time since 2003.  Second-year quarterback Chad Henne has done about as well as can be expected after Chad Pennington's season-ending injury.  Last week against Tampa, Henne completed 17 of 31 passes for 175 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Dolphins in their 25-23 football wagering loss.

As for the Carolina Panthers, the news isn't good for them either as both parts of their dual rushing attack are questionable to play tonight.  Both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart are nursing injuries, which puts more of the load on QB Jake Delhomme's shoulders.  There may not be a more hot and cold quarterback in the NFL than Delhomme.  After throwing 13 interceptions in the team's first six games, Delhomme has been good lately, not throwing a pick in Carolina's last three games, all wins against the football gambling odds.  Last week against Atlanta, Delhomme easily had his best game of the season, completing 15 of 24 passes for 195 yards with two touchdowns for Carolina betting fans.  Disgruntled WR Steve Smith also had a good game with four catches for 34 yards and two touchdowns on the day.

The sports gambling odds show the Panthers as a field goal favorite at -125 odds in this game with a  total of 42.5 points.
